Upgrading our Operating Room
Many people are getting hurt or sick everyday yet because people don’t have a lot of money we normally do not see them until they are almost dying. At this point they are sent to the OR for operation. There they are treated with kindness but that does not ease their financial as well as their physical pain. They are required to pay the minimum but still they cannot afford it and the hospital then pays the rest. This makes it that the hospital does not have enough money to get new equipment and better drugs. So after the surgery the patient can experience a lot of pain because we cannot get the right type of drugs.
Please help get the right equipment and the right drugs to our hospital.
We have many projects in mind as well as in process.
The Plumbing
Right now we are having a problem with the pipe lines on the hospital compound. This is because the pipes are so old that they are bursting in many places, in main water line as well as in some of the houses on campus. So the bottom line is that they need to be replaced. This is going to cost a lot of money and we would appreciate all the help that we can get. Please contact us by email if you wish to help.
Card room Extension
When people come to the hospital they go to OPD first. If they are admitted they are told to buy a card. This card contains doctor notes and keeps their lab results. When they are better and leave their card gets put into the card room. But when they get sick again, and if that person does not remember their card number, they are given a new card. This has caused much confusion, and our rooms are out of space. Our plan it to build a new card room, and to computerize our system. Please help us get the computers we need and to buy the materials for the construction.
The Laundry Room
The laundry has seen great transformation, from support of other missionaries in the past, yet we still run out linen for the patients. This mainly happens during the rainy season because the hospital cannot hang its clothes outside; therefore it takes much longer for things to dry. We also have to spend lots of money buying firewood to boil water to clean the clothes in. Our prayer is to have washer and dryers some day.
Maintenance projects
Our maintenance works hard everyday to keep up with the hospital needs. We have skilled craftsmen but no machines to work with. We end up spending too much money on something that needs to be transferred from the capitol city of Addis Ababa, when we are capable of making it here if we only had the machines to do it.
Our Road
The hospital is always having a hard time keeping the floors clean, and this is because we have a dirt driveway, and during the rainy season it becomes a mud river. We have made an effort to fix our road but it is still far from finished. Help us with our plan to finish our road and keep our floors clean.
Expanding our Kitchen
The kitchen gives three meals a day for about 15 birr ($0.85), but the meals are not highly nutritious. The hospital cannot afford to buy fruits and vegetables, so the meals contain mainly beans, lentils, rice, and injera (Ethiopia’s national tortillas).
Our plan is to build a cafeteria next to the kitchen, so that people coming in to visit their sick love ones in the hospital, do not have to go all the way out into town to get good food. Our hope is that more people will buy our food, and we plan to use the profits to buy better food.
Please help us with extending out kitchen.
Building another volunteer dorm
Sometimes we can get so many volunteers that we don’t have enough space for them all. Here you can see that we have been working on the construction of another volunteer dorm, but unfortunately our funds have run out and we have been forced to stop building. Please help us finish this house so that we can easily welcome new people, and give them a nice place to stay.
Dental Clinic
Our dentist room is in real need of support. We have received previous donations, but our supply is running low, and we will soon not be able to give the right anesthesia for our patients. This means our patients experience much pain, and there is not an available drug that is powerful enough that we can buy. Please help us get what is needed for our patients.
